Hey guys, I’m thinking about buying an iPhone 7, do you think it’s worth it? I’ve always wanted one, but I’m torn between that and the Note 10 Lite (focus on camera), even though I don’t take that many photos. I’m not sure if 3 cameras would make a difference. What would you do?
I definitely wouldn’t pay 2 grand for a 4-year-old smartphone… I’d go with the Note 10 Lite instead.
I had the iPhone 7 and switched to the Xiaomi Mi 9 Lite for the sake of battery, small screen, bezels… If you want an iPhone, start from the XR.
It’s like asking whether you should root for Corinthians or Palmeiras. Everyone will come out defending one side and it won’t help with what you need. That said, I’d go with the Note 10 Lite for sure, but I’m one of those who has my own biased view.
I don’t know how much you paid for each one, but here goes.
The iPhone 7 was released in 2016, which means it will get support until 2021. So, it only has one more year of support left.
Since it’s from 2016, I think it’s unlikely you’ll find the device brand new.
The Galaxy Note 10 Lite was released in 2020 and the device is on the list of those that will receive 3 system updates, which means support until at least 2022 (it was launched with Android 9.0, and this year Android 11 was released, but it’s very likely the update to Android 12 will only come out in 2022, plus the extra support time where the device will probably only get security updates).
Since it’s from 2020, you can still find the device brand new.
Now, if you’re comparing both, I assume it’s because you found them at similar prices.
If that’s the case, you just need to decide whether it’s worth paying R$X to have access to iOS on a 4-year-old device, likely usedaire and with only one more system update to go, or if it’s more worth paying the same R$X to have access to Android on a device that’s less than a year old, brand new, and will receive system updates for at least 2 more years.
Better not. The 7 was good in 2016, but now it’s 2020. The advancement in design, performance and cameras is so remarkable that it makes the iPhone 7 a terrible choice.
If you want to get an iPhone just to see what it’s like, and you’re considering this iPhone 7, your experience will be awful. The device isn’t bad, it’s just no longer suitable for this year.
Today, the entry-level iPhone would be the XR (yes, I’m ignoring the existence of the SE, it doesn’t make sense in Brazil).
I wouldn’t advise buying an old iPhone; since you’ve never had one, the Note 10 will serve you perfectly. And when you can buy an iPhone, go for the newest model or the one from the previous generation. It still won’t be cheap, but the cost spread out over its durability might be worth it, considering iPhones have 5 years of support counting from the iOS they come with.
Since you said your focus isn’t on photos, I don’t see any reason not to go with the Note 10 Lite.
iOS is good, but not worth what they charge. The iPhone 7 is already a pretty outdated phone and doesn’t beat any current top mid-range Android in anything except media — like photos and videos for Instagram — where, in this case, it’s undeniable that any iPhone will offer better quality than any current Android phone.
Okay, but I still think my S10 is awful (to put it mildly) for the front camera and Instagram video. No DxOMark score is going to change my mind.
Ah… The S10 doesn’t even appear in this list, not even in the top 50…
Instagram’s native camera ruins any phone that isn’t an iPhone. The way to go is to record separately and post later.
Definitely. Taking a photo with the normal camera and posting it can still be fixed… The real problem is when it’s a video or when you add a gif or music.
Instagram for Android deliberately reduces the quality!
I’d go with Samsung, its screen alone beats the iPhone 7’s by a mile.
I had an iPhone for 7 years, but nowadays I have zero desire to go back — Samsung’s One UI is really cool in my opinion.
