So, I have a Team Group T-Force 8GB 2666MHz RAM stick with CL15 latency, and I want to set up dual channel, but I can’t find this exact stick to buy anymore. Then I found one with CL16 latency.
Will it work, or is it better to buy 2x8GB identical sticks, set up dual channel, and leave the 8GB stick in single channel?
I imagine this topic would help:
I’m afraid something might go wrong and I’d end up wasting money, but thanks anyway.
To make it easier: with an 8GB stick and a 16GB one, the 8GB from the first stick and 8 of the 16GB from the second will work in dual channel, at the lowest frequency between the two. If the 16GB stick is 2400, for example, you’ll have 8GB from the first stick running at 2400 (even if the stick is 2666) + 8GB from the second stick, also at 2400, working in dual channel.
The remaining 8GB from the second stick will run in single-channel at 2400.
This alternative gives more performance than buying another 8GB stick, because in that case you would only have 8 + 8 in dual channel, instead of 8 + 8 in dual channel and 8 in single channel.
If you’re hesitant, don’t do it.
But the signs show it’s fine, considering the memories are in good health.
My other one is around 9 months old, and it hasn’t had any issues so far.
