Samsung Q70 TV with whitish bezels

Hey everyone! I recently bought a Samsung Q70 TV, after a lot of research about the pros and cons among this model, the Q80, and LG’s OLEDs. Given the price difference of over 1,500 reais at the time, I decided to go with the Q70 for the value. However, some time after receiving it, I started noticing that the TV has whitish edges, like a kind of vignette.

On bright images it’s barely noticeable, nor on very dark images, but on mid-tone images it becomes noticeable. It happens on all edges, and now that I’ve seen it I can’t unsee it and it’s been bothering me quite a bit. I tried tweaking the TV’s picture settings, but nothing seemed to help. I ran YouTube bleed tests and didn’t notice any issues on other parts of the screen.
I’d like to know if this is a characteristic of the product, or if I can use the warranty for repair. Has anyone else gone through a similar situation with any TV?

It’s good to compare with other owners of this same TV model, but on some older and lower-cost LCD panels, even mid-range ones, it can allow light from the backlight that illuminates the pixels to pass through. The light source (white) comes from the edges, and its intensity is greater. When the brightness is too high, it can leak through areas of the display. You might be able to work around it by lowering the brightness in the image settings, which would reduce this effect, but it may indeed be a characteristic of the panel.

Man, I have one of this model (Q70R) and I didn’t notice that, or my eye just isn’t well trained… I can take some pictures for you to compare with yours.

Backlight inconsistency can occur on any LCD TV, but if it’s much worse than average (as seems to be the case from those photos), especially on a model that isn’t entry-level, you can complain.

If possible, I’d like that. Try it on the YouTube app, which has that dark gray background — that’s where I took the photos of mine… But it’s quite noticeable, I think you would have noticed if there was any issue with yours.

I took these this morning (if you want, I can try taking them at night to reduce the glare):

Thank you. From the image, I got the impression that yours has a bit too, but apparently less than mine. Either way, I think I’ll try to contact the warranty to see what they tell me.

Grandpa, let us know later what Samsung is going to do.
